Capturing Wedding Guest Reactions

By Shoshana Reveles

To really capture the essential nature of a wedding, a paparazzo should not focus only on the bride and bridegroom. Frequently it can be reaction shots of the wedding guest observing the revels which provide an additional dimension the the pictures. This is especially nice for the couple as they will not have seen how guests reacted to the day.

A good wedding photographer will concentrate on the bride-to-be and bridegroom, but also scan the room for reactions and details to zoom in on. Often photography packages include an additional photographer who will target guests and other details, leaving the main photographer free to concentrate on the wedding party.

It can be particularly profitable to see the reaction of mums and dads and grandparents during key moments such as the first dance, the cake cutting or the toasts. Reaction shots can truly show the emotion of a wedding day. It takes a special amount of ability to read a situation and know where it is going.

Some of the top photographs taken at weddings are reaction shots, a single tear of joy sliding down a little boys face as his parents marry, the appearance of joy on a grandmother's face as her treasured relative greets his bride at the altar, or the outward appearance of pride on a father's face as he watches his daughter get hitched are all examples of superb reaction shots that might be seen at a wedding.

Sometimes the reactions won't even be to the specifics of the wedding itself. A wedding is a unique occasion where the couple have both pals and family in the room at the same time. It is something which won't be seen often. Dependent on the lifestyle of the couple, meeting their friends may be a shock to grandparents and older relations. Imagine a photograph of the couple's pierced and tattooed mates raising a glass in toast to the content couple, next to with a granny in her wedding outfit. Weddings can offer a contrast between various groups of people that are all joined together to celebrate one event.
