As for Student of the Year, Shah Rukh Khan seems to have a special attachment with the film. The superstar has been mentoring the newcomers in the movie, particularly Siddharth Malhotra. He has been advising Siddharth on various issues and has been regularly dishing out tips of stardom to the debutant and his co-star, Varun Dhawan. Siddharth and Varun together worked as assistant directors for Karan Johar's My Name Is Khan, where they showed a load of potential on the sets.
Their talent and enthusiasm was noticed by Shah Rukh Khan, who in turn would help them better understand the art of film-making. Quoting the young newcomers, "Shah Rukh Khan might not have been on the sets (of Student of the Year), but he was there emotionally. Besides, he had given us so many acting tips when we were assisting Karan during My Name Is Khan. He knew we wanted to be actors, so he would take us aside after every scene and explain the nuances of the scene. It was great; he's our mentor, in a way."
For the dashing and absolutely gorgeous Siddharth Malhotra, the film is a dream debut. This model-turned-actor comes from no filmy background and found big-screen acting a little more difficult than his co-actors, both of who come from film-backgrounds. Quoting Siddharth, "Sometimes, I'm a bit nervous. But at most times, I'm confident. I have landed a dream debut. Karan, according to me, has the safest pair of hands in the film business." Karan Johar sniffed out Siddharth and Varun's knack for the silver-screen while working with them for My Name Is Khan. "One day, I was assisting Karan on My Name is Khan, and now I'm the leading man of Student of the Year. I have to pinch myself to believe this is for real," says Siddharth.
Student of the Year release on the 19th of October 2012, and is produced by Dharma Productions and Shah Rukh Khan's Red Chillies Entertainment. The film will be Karan Johar's first project with newcomers and is expected to take the box office by storm. A fresh and youthful film in essence, Student of the Year is crafted to appeal to the younger masses as well as the older generations.
