Campus-romances have never really failed to grab attention on previous account and Karan Johar's upcoming Student of the Year is expected to step into the spotlight too. The film, scheduled to release on the 19th of October, is Karan Johar's fifth film.
The film is one of the most awaited movies of 2012 and will mark the debut of newcomers Sidharth Malhotra, Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan. A campus-romance sprinkled with romance and comedy, the film portrays the life of three students in an esteemed school competing against each other to win the prestigious Student of the Year Trophy.
In this coming-of-age film, Sidharth Malhotra plays the role of the righteous and independent Abhimanyu Singh. A state-level runner and a brilliant student, Abhimanyu is competitive and a natural leader. Hailing from a Delhi-based middle class family, Abhimanyu seeks to fund his own education and is enrolled at the esteemed St. Theresa's High School in Dehradun on a scholarship.
The newcomers Sidharth Malhotra, Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan have been trained and mentored by Karan himself for the upcoming film. "We did workshops and they were found to be right for the roles. They have this enduring charm to them and though they had some rough edges, I knew that they had potential to face the camera. Moreover after watching the film, you would realize that they have this correct celluloid presence. While Sidharth has the right restraint to play Abhi, Varun carries good enough flamboyance to play Rohan," says Karan.
Creating quite the buzz with these promotional campaigns in place, Karan Johar is excited about his upcoming film. The movie is set apart from Karan's previous projects and will be his first film with newcomers in the lead. Previously Karan Johar has roped in the likes of Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Kajol, Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor. The movie will also be his first without Shah Rukh Khan, who has starred in all of Karan's past directions.
