Virginia lumber yard is a place for stocking and/or keeping lumber, timber, and/or timber-based commodities for sale. The products and timber found there are used for constructing new homes, repair, and residence improvement projects. The facilities are distributed uniformly within Virginia rendering it simpler to locate and lease their services. They use forklift trucks and other forms of locomotives to move huge and heavy pieces of timber. The inside of the facility is organized with racks for holding timber. Racks are majorly made of metal because it is strong enough to hold the tones of weight involved.

Various parts of the racks hold various types and sizes of wood. This arrangement permits easy access to timber when requested by clients. Racks normally go many meters upwards and are accessed using step ladders, which are made on the sides. Passageways between racks allow staff members to pass through.

Apart from the racks, there also exists sections for tools, finished products, machines, and equipment. Major machines utilized in timberyards include smoothing, measuring, drilling, and cutting machines. Smoothing machines are used to smooth wood for sale while cutting machines chop wood into required pieces after measuring. Sections for finished products house orders placed by customers and items placed on display.

Timberyards are normally large in size for various activities that happen inside. They hold offices for managers. It is also in these offices where payments are made and receipts are written. Major contracts are planned inside the office with the managers. They are generally busy and noisy places which makes them to be located away from places where noise is not required. They may be independent businesses or branches of other larger companies.
