Elopements And Destination Weddings: Aren't They The Same

By Joshua Lynn

Destination wedding is a type of wedding that is held somewhere out of town. The places that bridal couples can choose from are countless but the most common choice include beaches, resorts and cityscapes. There are also couples that choose far-off islands, which is probably the reason why some people think wedding destinations are some kind of fancy elopements.

In practice, however, elopements and destination weddings are two distinct types of weddings whose only similarity is that the wedding ceremony is held out of town.

For one thing, wedding destinations necessitate more time for the planning of this big event. It will require bridal couples to do plenty of research, browse many different websites, make many phone calls and do comparisons to make sure that they end up with the right choices.

In contrary, elopements do not require couples to spend much time for the wedding preparation. This is because elopements are often spur-of-the-moment, whirlwind affairs. Couples that have eloped are more concerned about finding the place where the procedures for obtaining marriage-license requirements is easy.

Planning a destination wedding thereby requires more effort. There is an element of work attached to planning this kind of wedding since couples will need to talk to a lot of vendors. They'll also have to make a decision about these wedding elements: flowers, ceremony reading vows, reception food and drink, wedding cake, music for the ceremony and reception, wedding cake and pictures. In elopements most of these elements are eliminated.

In addition, elopements are somewhat secretive. The ceremony is often held without announcing it and the event is often attended only by the groom and the bride.

But if a couple do not have to keep their upcoming wedding a secret from anyone and they are having it somewhere out-of-town, then their choice is clear: they want a destination wedding.

Of course, a destination wedding will not be complete without finding a wedding photographer. A destination wedding photographer will help couples capture the important moments of their wedding and the beauty of the location as well. Bridal couples can consider choosing a photojournalist that specializes in destination wedding photography especially if they want their wedding photos to be more of casual, natural-looking and minute-moment shots.
