Need Photography Tips? We've Got Them

By Raquel Amanda Sanchez

There are many opinions when it comes to taking good pictures, many of these will contradict each other. You can use these tips to perfect your photography skills.

White is the worst color to be wearing in photographs, despite popular opinion to the contrary. The majority of cameras work on an automatic focus, and therefore the equipment will attempt to read the shades and colors within the shot's range. It is almost inevitable for white garments to appear washed out in pictures.

Above all else, photography is an art form meant to be enjoyed. Photos should be taken of things you want to remember later on and show others, whether it be an event, a location or even just a space of time. Have a good time while you take your shots and you'll find that the joy you feel comes through in the pictures you take.

As with everything in life, practice is the key to learning what does and does not work in photography. For those reluctant to try photography, the advent of digital cameras has given new access to this art and its possibilities. If you do not have to worry about wasting film, you can take as many pictures as you want and sort them out later.

Start thinking about thins that involve exposure, such as shutter and film speed and aperture. Learning about the exposure process can help you improve your picture taking.

Decide what aspects of your subject you want to capture in your photograph. A great photo will be like you are looking at your object through a little window. You should avoid showing too much when taking a photograph. If you are trying to capture an impression, take a couple of photographs instead of just one singe picture that has no detail or focus.

Experiment with different perspectives and scales in your images. Even an ordinary object can be transformed into a work of art if its setting makes it appear dramatically magnified or diminished in size or placed in a situation that is humorous or unique. Get creative with the composition of your photographs to come up with some inventive representations of commonplace objects.

Nobody says you cannot move around your subject to search for an interesting shot. Explore different positions relative to the subject. For example, shoot the object from above, below or at an unusual angle.

Use your flash outdoors to eliminate the shadows that can form when subjects are shot in bright sun. Not using the flash to shoot could cause subjects to appear too dark.

The basics of what you have to know about photography should be your current point of focus. You should now be prepared to start practicing your photography skills, and improving the quality of your photos.
