Adobe Elements Against iPhoto

By David Peters

Adobe Photoshop Elements, as the name indicates is in the product line of Adobe and is picture editing program. iPhoto is from Apple Inc. and is for Mac Operating Systems. This also is a picture organizing program.

Adobe Photoshop Elements and iPhoto aren't comparable programs though they share some common features like the photo organizer, basic color correction and picture correction features.

iPhoto is basically a photo organizer but Photoshop Elements is far more sophisticated and is a photo editing program itself. Moving through the huge album of images and making corrections to them is far simpler in Elements than in iPhoto. Using Photoshop Elements, you may composite the various images you've and combine them to form one, or convert it to a completely new one. If you simply wish to do the basic image correction tasks, then iPhoto is useful. You can even use Elements and iPhoto together. In this instance, using Elements as your editor will be a better choice. You may import the photos into iPhoto and edit it using Elements. For this you will have to set the option to 'Edit' in External Editor in the iPhoto menu. iPhoto is not that an expert tool for editing your pictures. And if you're a professional working with editing pictures, Photoshop Elements is the right choice.

Photoshop Elements has a lot more editing options that iPhoto as it's an editing program and iPhoto has more organizing options. The organizing features of iPhoto are key words and non destructive editing. It is easy to use books and calendars in iPhoto. Whereas the advantage of using Adobe Photoshop Elements is that there're three ways of editing images. The newest in the line, Elements 10 for Mac stands up to the expectations of the users. It is aimed at both expert as well as amateur users. And it is possible to use iPhoto along with Adobe Elements 10. Today in many packages you can buy the iPhoto along with the Adobe Elements. In the package charge, you will find that iPhoto is provided absolutely free. This package can include Adobe Bridge and a raw image converter also.

Besides editing images, Photoshop Elements provide lots of options in adding effects to the photos. This isn't possible in iPhoto. Along with Photoshop Elements comes the Bridge that aids you to assign the meta-data keywords to the pictures. In iPhoto you may add just the proprietary keywords. Using Adobe Elements, aside from organizing your photos, you may also share it by creating scrapbooks, web based albums, and in many more creative ways. Another disadvantage of iPhoto is that when you start using it, it often changes the folder structures you've created.

Also you can not use Adobe Bridge and iPhoto together on the same images. This is since the keywords and the meta-data of the photos crash the iPhoto when viewing these photos using the program. And when you export the pictures from the iPhoto, this software writes the keywords and titles corresponding to the pictures in the respective IPTC fields.
