On Hiring A Professional Wedding Photographer In Chicago

By Karin Garcia

Hiring a professional generally follows the same pattern no matter what the profession is. This is true whether you're looking for a Realtor in San Francisco or a photographer in Chicago. You will have the best odds of finding the right professional to hire if you are fortunate enough to have a good network of connections and friends to inquire with.

Word-of-mouth is crucially important not matter what kind of a professional you are hiring. You basically want to ask everyone you know, from relatives to colleagues about recommendations. Just ask if they know who's good and who's bad. Ask about good and bad experiences that people have had and what they can give as advice and tips on hiring pros for weddings. It goes without saying, but if a certain person keeps getting mentioned, then go for that person.

If you are not so lucky as to get a unanimous recommendation, you will have to do more work. You will have to apply additional criteria and factors to decide which of the recommendations to discard, and which ones to consider for actually hiring. There are many criteria, factors and ways to do this, but I will keep it easy for you.

I would tell you to first of all just phone each of these recommended folks and see how you get on the phone. I know it seems shallow, but if you have dozens of recommendations you can't assess each of them closely and interview them in person for hours. You just want to see the people with whom you seem to have "natural rapport".

In essence, having good rapport and "clicking" with your photographer will make sure that you are in sync and this person gets what is important to you about this wedding, which moments are crucial, what emotions should be captured. You want this person to be almost like an extension of how you envision things inside your head. So it is very, very important that you like how the communication channel between you and your photographer works out.
