Getting Ready For Your Maternity Portrait

By Ping Enriquez

Demi Moore should probably get the credit in inciting the craze on maternity photography. Pregnant mothers have been doing it for years, true, but the craze shot up when the A-list star posed on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine in 1991 fully naked while seven months pregnant. Over two decades after, expecting women all over the globe continue to pose with or without clothes while showing off their full belly for a maternity photography.

Maternity photography is very intimate not only to the moms but also to the soon-to-be dads. The photography session hopes to capture the momentous transformations on a woman's body and her feelings while looking forward to the birth of her baby. These changes and emotions are not reproducible, which is why it is best to seize them during pregnancy period. To further emphasize the pregnancy, it is also recommended that the mother is over six months pregnant when her belly is already big.

Even though maternity picture customarilly means the mother's solo photo, the growing craze these days is to include the father. The plan is to catch both parents' caring emotions and exciting expectations in the photo. If you like to include your spouse in the portrait, you can elect whether you wish to show a loving image or display both your fun side and talk about the treatment with the photographer.

A lot of couples prefer to have the pictorial session in the photographer's studio because they can make the lights softer for a dramatic effect. But some couples would like to go back to where they had their engagement shoot so the new photo can kind of help resume their story. You can also prefer to hold the shoot in your home or wherever relaxing like the seashore or a garden.

Thanks to Demi, mothers are now contemplating what they should put on in the photography shoot or if they should wear anything at all. While naked pregnancy shots appear artistic and bold, it is also pretty common nowadays. Nevertheless, go ahead and take a naked shot if you have the audacity and desire to do so. But remember to pick a reputable photographer who has experience in tasteful nude photography and discuss it with him first to prepare for the session.

However, if you prefer to keep your clothes on, highlight your belly by wearing something snug and stretchy. You can don a flowy skirt or jeans, but the concentration should still stay on your pregnancy bulge. If you want, put on a bandeau top to further accentuate the change in your body.
