Easy Ways To Make Your Wedding Special

By Eve Canipe

Everyone knows the basics of planning a wedding, from getting flowers to dresses to choosing a reception site and settling on a menu. But there are many little touches you can do to set your special day apart from the rest.

Give your guests a little extra thank you by placing favors on the reception tables. Tiny tea light candles can do double duty as both a romantic source of light and a keepsake. Other options include placing a chocolate, a mint tin or other small treat at each place setting.

A CD featuring your favorite songs as a couple, including your first dance song, is another fun keepsake. You can make a simple CD liner with wedding clip art or with pictures of you as a couple. There are many companies offering personalized keepsakes, such as playing cards or wine glasses or champagne flutes.

In addition to keepsakes for your guests, you can create some easy keepsakes for yourself, as well. Instead of a guest book, why not opt for an event sign-in board? This is a large frame with wide matting surrounding a picture. You can use an engagement photo of the two of you, and guests can place their signatures around the picture. Later, you can swap out the photo for a wedding photo. This is a keepsake you can enjoy for years to come, as opposed to a guest book that likely will be packed away.

In addition to the event sign-in board, consider enlarging and framing a variety of fun photos of you as a couple and decorating the reception hall with them. Chances are the enlarging and framing can be done by the same company that created your sign-in board. Consider not only couple shots, but also pictures of yourselves through the years, beginning with some cute baby pictures. These look especially cute as decorations for the cake table.

There are many other decorations that you can use that can be kept to decorate your house after the ceremony and reception are long over. Consider using a variety of vases for flowers, in different sizes and shapes. You also can opt for small pots with flowering plants, both of which can still be kept after the reception. Purchase LED candles for the tables in a variety of sizes and use a variety of candleholders. All of those can be used again and again. If you decorate tables with small picture frames, these also can be used again as home decorations.
