An Overview Of The Best Online Art Communities

By Kimberly Ross

While most artists work on a solo basis, there is often still a need for a sense of community. For, many of these individuals often feel isolated and alone at times. Knowing this, a group of artists have come up with some of the best online art communities for those seeking to share art, obtain and provide critiques and converse while becoming part of a community of like-minded people.

Like with most hobbies, when surrounded by people of like-mind, artists tend to be more inspired. Whereas, having the opportunity to share critiques with other artists can often help improve various skills. While this is the case, it is important to always provide criticism in a manner which is kind, polite and respectful.

While there are a plethora of these communities online, some are better than others. When deciding on which websites to recommend, reviewers were focused on content, genre and skill level. As such, there are some websites recommended which are appropriate for all skills levels and others which are geared toward more skilled and professional artists. Still, all of these sites, whether geared toward professional and more skilled artists or beginners have something unique to offer each and every artist.

Individuals desiring to enhance existing art skills whether related to 3D, design, digital or fine art might want to check out Conceptart dot org. For, this site is primarily a critique oriented site in which users critique each others work. As such, it is important to follow all the site rules and regulations pertaining to different methods which can be used in the process.

When it comes to Deviantart dot com, it is often considered one of the best communities for artists of all levels. For, the basic to the most advanced of artists are members of this community. As a result, artists can find information, inspiration and insight from professional artists while also learning new and different ways of enhancing existing skills.

The Tumblr website is another great way to preview art projects while posting original art and re-posting art by others. While most members post in the art and artist section, there are other sections in which art can also be shared. Whereas, as the number of users on this site outweighs most others, artists tend to gain a great deal of insight from a number of different users.

Drawcrowd dot com, a site aimed towards professional and more skilled artists offers individuals a custom designed website. In addition, each user is provided with a beautifully designed home page which can double as a portfolio. Most importantly, users can comment, follow, share and collect favorites by other artists. Pinterest dot com is probably the most popular and most well known of all these sites. For, the site hosts artists, crafters, chefs and others. Visitors to the site can find art, craft ideas, recipes and provide comments and ratings on posts. Currently, it is believed that Pinterest is most likely the most used website of this nature in the world.
