By Larry Carter

Dancing is becoming prevalent among many people. Some do it for fun while others do it as a career. Professional dancers take part in competitions to win trophies, get exposure and perfect moves. Instead of staying in the studio and dancing only with your classmates, consider dancing in a high stakes environment and see the difference, even if you are not a professional dancer. Here are the advantages of dance competitions Chicago.

The first benefit of taking part in a competition as a dancer is that you get to experience being on the stage. Not many people who try dancing get the chance to stand on a stage filled with a large crowd and judges watching your every move. Appearing on the stage gives one confidence in a high stakes environment hence getting the nerves to focus and give a lifetime performance. It is on the stage too they learn to connect with the audience to earn more makes from judges.

The next benefit is that you get feedback from professional. Judges who are on the stage awarding marks watch every movement of a crew or dancers to look for flaws or strength. After you are done performing, they give their opinions and comments. They will criticize what is not right and give valuable information on how you can improve and do better next time. People who are serious can benefit a lot in the future from the feedback.

Exposure is an advantage too. Participating in competition is a great opportunity to learn new things about dancing from people with different backgrounds and shine. The ideas suggestions given by the judges will help the team grow and reach far places. Some companies or institutions that are looking for talent will attend these events. Hence, participants get an opportunity to get scholarships to study or advance their dance careers.

Aside from exposure, competitive dancing helps create connections by meeting new people. Most dancers only know fellow enthusiast from their studio. With that kind of network, it will be difficult to find opportunities even in future because you only know a few people. When you go to an event with an open mind, you develop your social skills and meet people whom you share the same passion and interest. Knowing people from different places might benefit you later in life.

A lot of people especially those who practice routines in studios live in a comfort zone and do not strive to do better or work harder. Taking part in competitions will get you out of the comfort zone and raise your standards because the teachers, choreographers and the dancers will strive to do better because they will be performing in a whole different level and environment. Everyone begins to strive for better styles and more polished performances.

You might find great dancers who cannot work for a crew because they think they are better and others are not good. Such people lack teamwork which is a very crucial element for a troupe. When a competition is near, such people are forced to work with others because if they do not, they will also not go far.

In conclusion, competitive dancing teaches people resilience. Some people believe that they should always win and this is wrong because once they lose they are unable to bounce back. You cannot always carry the trophy, at times you will lose after a lot of hard work. Even after losing, dancers get the resilience to come back again and contend for the trophy without giving up.
