The Best New Heavy Metal Music

By Lisa West

The Australian band Belphegor has released so many albums that people who are fans can pick out their sound instantly. They have worked everything they know about making a hardcore song that people will love into "Apophis - Black Dragon". This is one of the new heavy metal music singles that gets people moving because of the starts and stops, amazing melodies, and energetic chugging.

"No Lives Matter" from the band Body Count is a direct and in-your-face take on some of the most important social issues that are taking place right now. It is easy to see how much Ice-T believe in and is frustrated about the lyrics he is performing. It also becomes easy to feel the same way he does after listening to it.

There is something special about taking the musical instruments of one legend in a genre and making something entirely new with them. That is what Jeremy Wagner of Broken Hope set out to do when he acquired a bunch of the guitars the Jeff Hanneman when he was in Slayer. Jeremy recorded songs like "The Carrion Eaters" and all of the album Mutilated and Assimilated with these guitars.

For fans who have a taste for the distasteful, the entire Forever album by Code Orange is a great thing to listen to. The title track from this album has the ability to create chaos wherever it is played. This is because of the frenetic rhythms and sudden stops, then blasts of distorted sound that take the listener on a thrilling ride of all their worst nightmares and most violent thoughts.

For groups that have been around for a long time, it can be hard to maintain the same sound and stop it from sounding stale after a while. This is not a problem that DragonForce currently has because their album Reaching into Infinity is as rejuvenated a sound as fans can ask for. The most triumphant track on the album is probably "Ashes of the Dawn".

People who like to move around and express themselves physically in violent ways when they listen to songs in this genre are probably familiar with Dying Fetus. The songs this band plays are perfect for that type of activity, including "Die With Integrity". This song blends new styles with some of the older ones.

Anyone who knows Norwegian bands is familiar with how dark and intense they can be. Enslaved is a perfect example of this type of band, and their ritualistic and Viking thematic material has blasted the ears of many fans. They took a lot of care in making "Storm Son", so it is best to hear it with headphones or a quality sound system to catch all of the barbaric nuances.

Some bands never recover from having their lead member die or leave the band in some other way. Because of the way that fans often associate bands with the singer and the distinct sound of their vocals, it is often impossible to find a perfect replacement. In the case of GWAR, Oderus Urungus passing away didn't mean the end of the band. Blothar is the new singer, and he commands the vocals amazingly on songs such as "F--ck This Place".
