Identifying A Contemporary Impressionist Artist

By Debra Fisher

When it comes to art, there are a lot of famous artists and genres. Some of the most famous and notable are the French Impressionists. As such, it is no surprise when looking for a piece resembling the work of one of these masters, an individual would look for work by a contemporary impressionist artist.

Some well known and respected artists working during the original period include, Frederic Bazille, Marc Chagall, Edgar Degas, Paul Cezanne, Claude Monet and August Renoir. To gain a better perspective of these artists, most have works hanging in galleries and art museums around the world. As such, one of the best ways to see the works of these amazing artists is to visit one of these locations.

Individuals not able to visit a museum can now view some of these artists online. For, different art and museum websites now host a number of artists and paintings. While it can be easy to do so, it is hard to capture the effects of light and shadow. As such, it is often preferable to view the original paintings when and where possible. For, it is important to understand the original concepts used by these artists in order to comprehend the work of current contemporaries.

To gain an idea of the work of a recent contemporary, the work of Thomas Kinkaid is a good example. For, while having passed in 2012, Mr. Kinkaid was often considered a contemporary impressionist with regards to the use of light in the many paintings now hanging in the Thomas Kinkaid gallery in San Francisco, California. In fact, the acclaimed artist and painter is often considered the painter of light.

Like the Impressionists, those now working in this genre often paint outside in fresh air. In the case of Boston contemporaries, many can be seen painting on canvas in the Boston Gardens or Commons on a regular basis. Whereas, when it comes to San Francisco, Golden Gate Park and the waterfront are often favorite locations for artists. For, whether using oil or watercolor on canvas, painting outdoors has always been a favorite activity among a number of artists.

Whether using a natural backdrop or fixed pose, no other artists have been able to create the effects of the French Impressionists or a number of contemporaries, such as Mr. Kinkaid. As such, many current paintings resemble those of the French Impressionist Masters. While at the same time, each has a style that is often unusual and unique to each artist.

While French Impressionism originally emerged from France, the style has now spread around the world. As such, there have been artists working in Europe, Italy and the United States for quite some time. Whether during the early days, or in the present, artists working in this genre are well known for work which is breathtakingly beautiful and unique.

In the case of the early French Impressionists, there were many critics who disapproved of the style. Whereas, there were others whom believed the style captured originality and vision. It is now up to the contemporaries of these original artists to inspire future generations by creating new masterpieces, using the techniques of the French Impressionist Masters.
