Factors To Consider When Choosing Alternative Style Of Hymn

By Gary Cook

Music plays a significant role in educating and passing out information. It can be a difficult to create the desired effect. There are cases where unison is not created, and it is here that the musician thinks of the alternative style of hymn. This will attract more to listening to it and also having them singing it. There are different factors that one can look into to keep the congregation unified and bring the intended message.

The musician should understand the long range. The old song range should guide one to the preferred tune. One must choose the most comfortable range among the five ranges. It will be wise if they want the middle range because a large number of the congregation can sing it well.

One of the precautions that need to be put into consideration is the needs of a song. The information may not reach the target group apparently if the words are not pronounced correctly. The process of changing the tune of the song must take into consideration how the words are arranged and their concentration because any alteration can interfere with the verse meaning. The words must be placed according to the different pitches, for instance, the higher and the bass. Hence one must take into account the order and concentration of words.

The person playing the instruments must understand them very well. They must be reading the different keys and how to play them. They must also have practiced with the tool they are using for some time and gained the tactics on how to use it. This will avoid situations where one plays the wrong keys making the song to appear awkward. The guitarist and keyboard player must able to transpose to various keys.

To get a good end product, one needs to have a high quality starting product, and this should also be the case in the tunes. The parent song should be of highest quality, and the way the words are arranged is informative and entertaining. Those songs which are hard to understand should be avoided at all cost. The song to be altered not change meaning on alteration of keys.

One must take into consideration of person singing the tune. The songs for soloist and the choirs are singing using the different keys. The most songs must be transposed to a third down or up keys. This will be more comfortable for the congregation because they are easy hence participation of everyone.

When one thinks of altering an already sung hymn they must think of the energy that was in the song. The higher energy songs should be replayed using the high-energy keys unless stated otherwise. The energy should not be lowered or added as this may interfere with the song original meaning. The songs must keep its meaning.

The congregation must well take the tones that are chosen. The community that is receiving it is composed of different persons who will raise different reactions towards a song. The changes that are made need ought to be taken positively by the different group of persons.
