The American Cubanito And Things To Know About It

By Ann Murray

Cubans have been transplanted to the US through a history of trade, war and geopolitics. Cuba was once an American colony which produced sugar for America as well as provided a tropical vacation spot for citizens in the continent. Later on, the revolution ousted Americans and their companies from the island and refugees came and went from it.

People lumped as part of the classification Latino or those who come from south of the border with Spanish ancestry, Cubans take pride in having a unique history and cultural materials. The American Cubanito is part of these materials, and has generated so much in terms of food or cuisine, arts and the and entertainment. It is everything Cuban and more, a mix of popular elements.

The diminutive works as a thing from Spanish, a way of affectionately calling things that are close to hearts of people. It has become a general designation for things that are related to the Cuban culture that has grown here in the US. The drink that is called Cubanito, for example, is based on the margarita, and becoming popular.

There are also those making music out of traditional music that is found on the islands. Languages in use may be pidgin, English or Spanish, and will depend on artists, something that may be appreciable for many Cubans residing here. Also, Latin songs are often a hit in America, and always played in certain cities.

The music is quite distinct, and artists working the local scenes can really aspire to the national stage. Exceptional talents have come to the international success, inspiring those who also dream of doing the same. The vibrant scene is a thing that can be found in clubs, those that cater to both Latinos and many young Americans.

In the city Miami Florida Cubanitos can also define a philosophy and a way of life that is truly distinct. It is about the products that have defined commerce for the island nation, or the mores and fashions that are still found there. It is about living life as a native while being an American, a country that lets them enjoy the freedom to be what they want to be.

People do this and are particular, especially since they are doing, eating, or appreciating music in the traditional sense. But this is not in any way exclusivist, because everybody here will welcome anyone willing to appreciate all the things in art, cuisine and the like. Understanding Spanish is never a stumbling block to this.

There is a new era of integration and friendship going on between the US and the Cuban state. This has made the Cubanito a new cultural buzzword in many cities and state in America, especially in those places where there are large Latino populations. Florida, in particular, is where this phenomenon has attained amazing new heights and may continue doing so in the near future.

This is not something new here, though, but already a well accepted cultural item given a new boost from the current state of American and Cuban relations. The new dynamism and vibrancy with this is a thing which is new. And lots of folks get to appreciate it, besides those who have it as part of their cultural legacy from the island.
