Fashion Photography Pointers, From Estelle's

By Katie Onson

Anyone who is involved in fashion photography can tell you that there is plenty of work involved. Estelle's, not to mention other companies, can tell you all about the importance of high-quality pictures taken of the best dresses and attires in general. However, in order to become an expert photographer, you have to be willing to put in the work. As a matter of fact, here are just a few of the most helpful pointers that you should take into account.

In order to become proficient at fashion photography, you should have a strong understanding of different attires. For example, if you're going to work specifically in women's fashion, it might be in your best interest to read up on the latest prom or quinceanera dresses. For men's fashion, perhaps your attention will be focused on custom suits. Whatever the case may be, knowledge of various attires must be had.

Facial expressions should be recognized in the field of fashion photography, too. Keep in mind that models can wear a number of outfits; this doesn't necessarily mean that they will be effective models. As a photographer, it's important to instruct them on different facial expressions, which will allow for better stories to be told. Without these, it's possible that you will not be able to take the kinds of pictures that you have in mind.

Finally, make it a point to try out different types of lighting, in order to achieve unique results. Even though you might think a particular shot would look with more lighting, you'll probably discover that a more subdued option will work just as well, if not more so. This is dependent on the type of shot you're taking in, though. What this means is that you should experiment, playing around with your settings until you find the best results.

For many, fashion photography can be one of the most rewarding fields that a person can get involved in. With that said, it doesn't have to be overly challenging, especially when there are several points that you can use to your benefit. You can learn about how different attires fit specific body shapes, as well as the differences that certain facial expressions can make. If you take the time to learn, fashion photography will come easier to you.
