Knowing Good Science Fiction Music

By Brenda Burns

There are many people around the globe who enjoy listening to lyrics which are associated with a variety of movies. Tucson AZ residents know that science fiction music plays a major role within each film that is released. "Raiders Of The Lost Ark" "Jurassic Park" "ET" "Star Wars" and "Logan's Run" all have great sounds associated with them. A film by Ridley Scott named "Prometheus" also came with a great soundtrack.

Many people have gone to see all three of the previous "Star Wars" films which were made decades ago. These were very popular movies which featured great actors who have been around for a very long time. John Williams is the original composer for all of these movies and he has done some great work for television as well.

Another great movie was named "ET" and it dealt with a small alien who was stuck on the planet Earth for a short period of time. The youngster who was featured in this film lived a very sad and lonely existence since none of the other children liked him. The composer John Williams felt that sentimental tunes would work best for this project and he was correct to make this certain assumption.

Steven Speilberg made sure to always hire Mr. Williams for any of his future projects since he was great at his job. George Lucas fully agreed with this notion and he also made it a point to use John's service. John took his time to put together a great "Raiders Of The Lost Ark" theme which was phenomenal. After this he went on to score other film projects with very popular themes.

Back in the 70's the show "Battlestar Galactica" was a big hit with viewers everywhere within the United States. This was one series which dealt with space creatures and other ugly critters who were trying to destroy the world. During the year 2004 a man named Bear McCreary decided to arrange new tunes for the latest "Battlestar Galactica" series. This show would be very different than the one made in 1978.

"Logan's Run" dealt with young people who were put to death on their thirtieth birthday in a very weird society. Jerry Goldsmith composed the haunting theme to this futuristic film which frightened many small children. The theme has a fascinating sound which goes from silent to loud very quickly.

Many people were afraid of the creatures that populated the film "Aliens." James Cameron knew that he had a hit film while creating this motion picture during the 80's. He had picked up from the original film with the same characters who were space explorers. James Horner was in charge of many tunes which were involved within this film. Luckily every sound proved to be award winning to critics everywhere.

"Jurassic Park" dealt with dinosaurs and other animals which all lived thousands of years ago. The movie is one roller coaster ride that no one really wants to miss if they are living within the United States. It is not surprising that John Williams was also available to compose all sounds to this hit American film which is loved by millions.
