Elvis Presley Books Make An Excellent Read

By Marie Jackson

Over the years many Elvis Presley books have been written and published. These record the life and career of the most successful male recording artist in music history. A lot of these publications have come from those closest to the man himself including colleagues, friends, fellow musicians and relatives.

Not all of these publications have been authorized and may contain questionable material. Still others have been categorized as almost pure fiction or at best speculation on the part of the author. Following early death of The King in 1977, many works have been reported as made up sensationalism.

There are however plenty of tomes on the market which have been authorized either by Elvis himself or close relatives. Memoirs have also been published by his confidantes and very close friends. Recollections from his daughter, ex-wife and others closest to him have made their way to print. These often include archives from the estate and private documents that have come to light since his death.

Another very popular subject for authors are his live shows, concerts and performances spanning a career of over twenty years. These frequently go into exceptional detail regarding the session musicians, dates, studios used and other minutiae about the recordings. Interviews, quotes and photos provided by those working with him go to add interest to the facts and figures.

After establishing himself as a recording artist and performer, Presley went into the movie business in the 1960's. Many did not regard him as being a very accomplished actor but none the less there are some fascinating stories from this time in his career that have been put into print. Fellow actors, staff and movie executives have over the years told their stories of what is was like to work with the star.

During his military career after he was drafted into the U. S. Army Presley was stationed mostly in Germany. Many of the people who were close to him at this time have also put pen to paper and recorded their thoughts and memories of these times. These publications make for interesting reading as this was a time of mixed emotions for the star with the death of his mother and meeting his future wife Priscilla.

Many people regard the stories and account of the later years the most interesting material to read. Spending many months at a time in Vegas, sometimes performing two shows per day to sell out audiences there are many stories to be told. Mixing with fellow superstars also working in the town at the time, a lot of these tales and anecdotes have been published. During these years the stars health started to deteriorate and he became more involved in religion and in particular gospel music and there are some fascinating copies in print of Presley's own written comments.

Historians, music fans or devotees of the man himself are inundated with reading material on Elvis. Many millions of words have gone onto paper chronicling the life and times of the biggest star in recording history. Publications can be found online, in high street book stores and in libraries around the globe on this much loved man.
