By Mattie Knight

It is always interesting to hear great tunes whenever a person turns on the television set within their home. People living in Tucson AZ know that they will indeed be hearing great science fiction music whenever a show like "Star Trek" "Lost In Space" or "Space 1999" comes over the airwaves. These shows are all classics and they really capture the viewers attention at every moment of broadcast.

During the 1960's Gene Roddenberry created a hit series titled "Star Trek" which dealt with a Captain and his crew who were exploring outer space for several years. At the start of this show William Shatner would say a few words before a daring tune would start playing. People all over the world are familiar with this sound which was created by Alexander Courage who was a great musician during his time.

Alexander was a musical genus who really brought this show to life each and every week with his unique arrangements. Special tunes would play for the Captain aboard this friendly ship whenever he was fighting. Young people all over the world enjoy these sounds while having fun.

When "Star Trek" ended Gene Roddenberry decided to do other projects to fill up his time. He waited until the 80's before getting another musical arrangement for the series "The Next Generation." Another very special show which featured the crew of Alpha Control was called "Space 1999" and it contained some really groovy sounds.

Many of the actors playing on "Space 1999" were British and they really had no connection to the American audience at all. Luckily Barbara Bain and Martin Landau were quite popular in America since they had already starred on a series called "Mission Impossible" in the late 60's.

Individuals in England have all heard about Barry Gray and his musical introduction for the "Space 1999" series. His theme was very exciting and it was different from any other tune that was around. The intro to this series showed clips of what was going to happen within the hour.

Fans all over the world still watch and love "Lost In Space." This was one glorious series which featured the best animation that humans have ever seen. The opening credits during the first and second season included images of the actors floating in space. This sequence was created by a composer with the birth name of John Towner Williams and he is very intelligent. John decided to do a different opening after the second season ended.

During the third season the audience members were now able to take a good look at Johnathan Harris, Marta Kristen, Billy Mummy, June Lockhart, Angela Cartwright and Guy Williams. They were all good looking people who really made a difference while starring on this show. The last season's intro was indeed exciting but it could not save the series from being canceled after twenty four shows were completed.
