Tips On Fashion Style Drawing

By Lena Stephenson

Now if one is going to be a fashion designer, then he has to take note of how to draw a figure because figures in this field are drawn differently as compared to contemporary art. Now for those who would want to enter into this field, here are some tips on how to do fashion style drawing. Sketching figures is entirely different and also a little bit more complex.

Of course one thing that one would have to take note of when drawing fashion style would be that all parts are very much exaggerated. Now the shadows and the folds of the clothes are very much unrealistic but they are used in order to highlight the good parts. Of course the body proportions and the stances of the models are also exaggerated.

For the very first step, it will definitely help if one would first trace the figure of an actual model from a magazine. To do this, one would first have to have a pencil, a ruler, and some tracing paper. When he has gotten all of those materials, then he has to trace the model of his choice on the tracing paper using the pencil and the ruler for measurements.

Now once one has already traced the silhouette, then the second step is to create a wooden puppet outline. The whole purpose of the outline is to help the artist be able to know how to draw the parts and the poses properly. Basically, he will just use some lines and basic shapes in order to form the wooden puppet outline.

After one has already created the puppet outline, then he can start creating his model with the clothes. To do this, all he has to do would be to first use a pencil to draw the shape of the face, the head, the arms, and all the other body parts using the outline as a basis. Now as stated above, the body parts have to be exaggerated which means that one would have to draw longer arms, a longer torso, longer legs, and a smaller head.

Of course when he draws the clothes, he has to make sure that the shadows are exaggerated as well. Now when he is done making the pencil sketch, then he should use a black pen to trace the pencil marks and darken the details that need emphasis. Of course once he is done with that, then he should erase the pencil marks that were made.

Another thing that one has to do is to always exaggerate all proportions. Maybe give the model sassy hairstyles or some accessories that are not usually seen. Of course the poses have to be exaggerated as well like when one would look at a model from the runway.

So for the beginners out there, here are some tips that can be followed when first starting out in this line of work. Now once one has gotten some practice already, then he may not need to trace the silhouette of a model from a magazine anymore. He can also try experimenting with different kinds of styles so that he can come up with his own style.
