The Linesman Tension Load Tool

By Bonnie Contreras

When people are working on high voltage power lines, high in the air, they need tools that have been proved reliable. A linesman tension load tool is an important part of this equipment. For these workers the tools should be light, compact and easy to carry on a tool belt.

The linesmen are highly qualified electricians as well as people who do not mind heights and spend most of their lives suspended in the air. Hanging from a pole or climbing a pylon they have to have precision in what they do and climbing is another skill required by the job. For this specialized work they have to have faith in their equipment and know that every item will perform as required at all times.

Once a worker has climbed up a metal framework or is suspended from a pole he needs access to his equipment easily and quickly. They carry everything they need in belt pouches, or hanging from their belt and so the items need to be small, light and tough. Working in these conditions the workers can not afford faulty or weak items.

This job consists of general maintenance and repair which sounds easy but it can be necessary to work in very hazardous conditions. These people travel the county repairing damaged or weak cables, but a lot of the weaknesses only show up in bad weather. This means that they work in some of the worst situations.

To the workers who scale around at these heights in high winds, freezing temperatures and blizzard conditions, it is all in a days work. Although a lot of us would cringe at the thought, they are out there, keeping the power flowing. The bravery of these men and women is absolutely astounding.

Their working lives consist of continually traveling from one problem spot to another sometimes covering large distances. They go to some of the remotest and roughest parts of the country. It can be long periods between visits home to family and loved ones. This makes it a very hard life and yet we owe these people, for the power that they make sure we continue to receive, giving us comfort and warmth in the harshest weather.

So when the weather brings down a power line and a whole town or village is thrown into darkness, it is at these times that people like these come to our rescue. The lines break or are ripped from their ties which can leave them hanging over rivers or maybe a busy road. Sometimes snow or excess rain can weaken the capability of the cables and cause power faults. These workers are then at their busiest fixing the problems and keeping the country running smoothly.

It is at these times when the linesman tension load tool should be a tool to rely on. They are used for coupling broken cables while a new cable is mounted or new supports are fitted. As such they not only need to be tough but also, reliable so that every job can be completed in the optimum time.
