Fortunately, their stature has never prohibited them from being a perfect family pet, as they are usually careful and cautious around children.

Just like traditional canines in this category, this kind of Shepherd is at an increased risk for specific hereditary health issues. These include hip or elbow dysplasia, hemophilia, and eczema. Keratitis, which is an inflammatory eye condition, and epilepsy are also a problem among such dogs, although the latter two disorders are much less common than the former three.

It is never wise to do business with an individual whose kennels appear to be crowded or unclean, or who attempts to encourage the prospective buyer to meet him or her in an area other than where the dogs are kept. Fortunately, reputable breeders are not difficult to locate, and virtually any dog lover will be pleased with the happiness such a pet brings to his or her household.
