The Benefits Of School Music Festivals

By Paulette Short

The entertainment value derived from musical performances at concerts is undeniable. It is true though that these events are the springboard for many successful careers. Educators and other stakeholders are clearly aware of this and this is why they have resorted to the use of school music festivals to unearth hidden talent and shape the future.

Music-based events are great for enhancing the social lives of patrons. They get to meet others who share similar interests and interact in an environment that is way less formal than a classroom. This is why such events take on way more significance for institutions assigned the task of grooming the youth. They help to fulfill one of the roles of such an institution which is to prepare the students for induction into the adult world.

Such events are also ideal means of revealing or discovering the hidden potential in many students. This potential, once discovered, can be sharpened and enhanced to allow for the overall development of the students. Many career musicians started with an initial performance at their place of learning. It also serves as an avenue for the teaching of valuable life lessons since the students learn to appreciate the effort of professional entertainers.

An event of this nature may be theme oriented. This means that a particular genre of music represents the nucleus of the entertainment used. This is not the case for all such events though as there are some that are planned with no particular theme or genre in mind. They also help the students to prepare for the world within which they must live.

Of course, the events are planned and executed by stakeholders such as teachers, parents, administrators, students or a team comprised of representatives from each group. The additional funds help to enhance key areas of the school's functions and many school administrators maintain that they go a long way in ensuring the success of a number of projects.

In cases where the event is being used as a fundraiser, it is typically planned and coordinated by key stakeholders within the education sector. These include members of the teaching staff, administrative personnel, parents and students. Quite often, the task is carried out by a team comprising members from each of the groups.

There are also benefits to be derived from competitions that often accompany events of this nature. Sometimes a competition is launched or established through festivals of this nature. The music department in schools typically enter the school's choir or instrumental group. Money or other types of prizes are often won this way.

Musical entertainment has been enhancing the lives of human beings for centuries. The impact has only gotten greater with the passage of time. Today, students around the world are thriving through the benefits of school music festivals. Their lives are being enhanced academically and socially and they are essentially being groomed for a world of creativity.
