How To Make Hip Hop Beats And Rap Instrumentals

By Delroy Wilkins

There are a number of important elements that go into the creation of hip hop beats that listeners enjoy. While some of these elements might not be used during your beat making, it's important to know about their roles and their effect on your songs. Learning about them will allow you to use the appropriate element or decide on which one to leave out during your beat making. As such, none of these elements should be ignored. Not knowing about a single element might mean the difference between finding the best beat for a song or not.

The pads are often an element of hip hop that people do not realize is there. It is a subtle addition to the beats, but that does not mean that it is not important. The right use of pads will enhance any beats that you create and will help you in a variety of ways.

If creation of rhythm in the beats is through drums, the pads are used to add harmony to the beats. Drums will just act as the driving force to the beat. However, it's the pads that people feel when listening to the beat. Pads often act as emotion creators when it comes to beat creation. When using pads, think about the emotional response you want to receive from listeners of the beat. If you want an upbeat feeling, use pads during the introduction part of the song. A somber feeling on the other hand is achievable through use of pads within the verses.

* Filling Space - There will be times during your beats that you will need to fill space. There are several techniques that you can use such as stretching, but the pads may be your most effective tool in this area. They can fill the parts of your music without taking over. They will lie in the background and will serve as a bridge without the people who are listening even realizing that they are even there. If you are going to use pads to fill space, make sure that you keep the volume low so they do not distract. The idea is to fill the space without the listener realizing it is happening. If the pads are too loud, this will not happen.

Pads are also used to change directions as the song transitions from one part to another. They can be used to fill spaces created as the song moves from intro to the verse and chorus.
