Recycling refers to the reprocessing and remaking of new things from items that would have been considered as waste. Recycling of metal especially has come of age and proved to be a very lucrative business. Scrap is normally collected and taken to junkyards where it is processed further through melting to produce new products. Scrap metal recycling in PA has grown tremendously and this has fostered the emergence of many recycling companies.

Scrap metal is divided into two major categories. This is ferrous and non ferrous metals. Ferrous metals refers to the metals that contain Iron and non ferrous are those with no Iron. In junk yards the two are separated by using large electromagnets which are able to attract the metals containing Iron.

Advertisements are used largely by the companies that do this type of business. Through these advertisements people are able to know the services offered by these companies. They are thus able to sell whatever junk they have and make some money for themselves. Scrap has to be valued and priced for it to be sold and bought. Prices are not uniform in all junk yards but all yards price the scrap after weighing them.

Reusing waste has a lot of important benefits. Energy that should be used in extraction of raw material is saved. Mining wastes are therefore reduced. Another major beneficiary of this process is the environment. Recycling helps in the cleaning of the surroundings, that is, land, water and the air we breathe.

Apart from environmental benefits, the economy also benefits. People are able to get employment opportunities in various junk yards around. The smelters are able to earn their living from this business. In some cases the locals also benefit because some junk yards allow them to purchase some of the scrap before they are melted and reprocessed.

The government is able to collect a lot of money because of this recycling industry. Money which is collected comes from the taxes charged from both exports and internal trading activities. The exports are able to earn foreign currencies that improve the financial position of the country. The home currency is thus able to compete more efficiently with other currencies. Generally the economy thrives thanks to this revenue. People are able to enjoy better social services offered by the government.

New issues have come up because of this industry. Matters pertaining to health have been raised and this has facilitated various health studies so as to address the problems that have emerged from it. Authors and scholars have written on issues that try to bring to light problems that people in this industry face. Applicable working, health and safety standards have in the recent past improved to take care of the needs of this industry.

Despite the various challenges scrap metal recycling in PA faces, good things have come from it. Nature has been taken care of since the need for extraction of raw materials has reduced. This has made earth a safer and a more comfortable place.
