Learn More About Scrap Metal Recycling In PA

By Alison Wilcox

Scrap metal recycling in PA is big business for many. There are large corporations that have made billions over the years from the practice. The increase in popularity of recycling is largely due to green campaigns spearheaded by environmentalists as well as some government agencies. While many types of metals can be recycled, aluminum, copper and iron are the most common.

The amount of energy needed to extract pure metals, like aluminum and iron, from their ores is quite significant. On the other hand, the energy needed to recycle metallic waste to obtain pure aluminum or iron is much lower. It is because of this reduced energy requirement that many organizations, environmentalists, governments and individuals want metallic wastes to be recycled.

There is a lot of money to be made, from several fronts, through recycling. Those who produce metallic waste can sell them off to dealers. These traders can make money by selling the metallic waste at a price higher than the buying price. Recyclers can make money by selling the recycled metal to their customers. It is a process than benefits all, including the environment.

Metallic waste is normally bought or sold according to their quality and weight. Different companies and metallic waste dealers normally offer different prices for a pound or kilogram of scrap. There are times when homeowners, contractors, manufacturers and learning institutions among other sources of scrap, can sell their waste at a very good price.

One of the largest sources of metallic waste is car yards. Thousands of vehicles are disposed of every single day in the U. S. Engine blocks, rims and some automobile bodies are all metallic. When these vehicles are brought to the car yard, they are first stripped of all non-metallic parts before they can be compressed to reduce their volume. They are then sold to companies that recycle metallic waste.

Aluminum recycling is very popular nowadays. Empty soda and beer cans are the most common types of aluminum waste. During collection from homes and business premises, these cans are always kept separate from other types of wastes. Most garbage collection firms normally lease out large bins to industries that produce a lot of metallic waste.

Aluminum, without a doubt, is the most recycled material on earth. There is a lot of aluminum waste in the environment. For instance, beer, energy drinks and soda cans all need to be disposed of. Burying them in a land fill is not a good option. When recycled, these waste products can provide enough aluminum to cover market demand. This will put a stop or reduce mining and processing activities involving aluminum ores.

Scrap metal recycling in PA has three main stages. The first is collection and transportation. The second stage is shredding and separation of metal from other materials. The last stage is melting the metal and removing impurities in order to obtain pure metal.
