X-Factor Star Jahmene Craves US Idol

By Johnson Brierley

Love him or loathe him (although i dont know how anyone could loathe him) he has a point. Jahmene believes that the US talent show American Idol would be a much better fit for him than X-factor, because it is concerned with vocal ability and not looks and popularity.

The shy 21 year old admitted, after his audition, that the producers were more concerned about personality than voice. "The X-Factor isn't about singing so much, I think you have noticed yourself by what people get through to the live shows", he said.

Jahmene believes that singing is a secondary consideration when the show's producers decide which performers get through to the live stage, and given the awful quality of some of the acts we have all witnessed, who can dis-agree with him?

Well not Gary Barlow, that's for sure, who publicly spoke out in defence of Jahmene, remarking that the singers on American Idol are always so good compared to the ones on X-factor, before continuing to state that since Jahmene has come along he is no longer jealous of the American show's talent.

But as anyone worth their salt will tell you, you have to take advantages of opportunities in life when they present themselves - something which Jahmene has certainly done - and he now certainly seems to be at ease in the public eye, this week hanging out with Nicole Scherzinger at his local ASDA store.

In the last show Jahmene topped the digital spy best singer poll for the first time - following on from his second place finish last week - after taking over 31% of the votes for his cover version of Beyonce's 'Listen' from the hit movie 'Dreamgirls'.

They say that today's news is tomorrow's fish and chip paper, and nowhere is this more true than in the world of reality TV, where almost none of the contestants survive in the public mind for more than a few days after the show has ended. But there are the occasional few who live on in the memory, and only a brave person would bet against Jahmene joining that elusive club.

But aside from whether or not anyone will remember his name this time next year, let's just hope that the show and the incredible exposure that he has received over these past weeks has done nothing to distort or corrupt his world view, and that he is still able to keep his feet planted on solid ground.
