The Difference Between An Audiophile Speaker Cable And An Ordinary Wire

By Kendra Ware

For consumers with little experience and enthusiasm about sound systems, cables aren't given much thought during set up. In contrast, those who place particular importance on their sound quality usually have a strong opinion about cables. An audiophile speaker cable enhances sonic power and definition to improve the sound speakers generate.

The ideal cables for every system don't exist. It's more important to look into product synergy to find the ideal cables for individual system needs. Products can only improve sound when they're used with recommended brands. Designer approved systems tell clients which cables are suitable for their own entertainment systems.

There are many audiophiles who prefer to vary sonic signatures by using a combined range of products. High end cables aren't preferred by all enthusiasts. Some prefer the type of sound generated by low end wires. High end cables usually allow consumers to return their products for a refund if they cannot hear any enhancements from the products.

It's usually difficult for consumers to hear the difference in sound quality delivered by high end products in a short space of time. It's better to listen to cables' influence for days or hours. High end cables can't perform miracles with low quality sound systems. Those who own inferior systems are unlikely to enjoy the enhancing impacts of high end cables.

Consumers who own high end entertainment systems demand sound precision and high definition at every frequency. The frequencies pertaining to base, treble and sound stage need to be supported by the cables chosen. High definition base and clear treble can be influenced greatly by the quality of cables used.

All wires deliver a different sound stage, and preferences differ among consumers. Some people like a holographic sound whilst others adore a more organic sound stage. For this reason, product reviews can come across as contentious. However, when consumers pay attention to reviewers with similar preferences to their own, they will have more success finding the ideal cables for their personal preferences.

Many audiophiles hand pick each of their sound system's components, including the wires. High grade cables need to be designed to cope with the full wattage of the speakers, or the sound will be degraded. Audiophile standards vary from standard wire in that their products transmit more defined, enhanced sound. There are no standard features for such cables. Their only similarity is that their performance is enhanced.

Solid copper wire is a popular preference for cables. It is said to enhance both base and treble. There are also brands that focus on eliminating the noise that televisions and speakers generate. Foil shielding can also be used to diminish noise. Some cables are designed specifically for subwoofers. They will enhance only the relevant frequency.

When setting up outdoor entertainment systems, requirements change. Cables need to be able to withstand the elements over the long term. They should be efficient when run through soil and crawl spaces. An audiophile speaker cable doesn't alter the performance of the speakers themselves, instead enhancing the transmission of sound.
