Making It Big For The Swedish Female Singer

By Shanna McNeil

The Swedish female singer has for a long while enjoyed greater notice on the global stage than the male counterpart. Even with a group like ABBA, that was made up of two men and two women, it often seemed like the women were apportioned more of the songs to sing and dominated in the music videos. Other singers like Robyn and Lykke Li have continued to capture the attention of many fans across the world.

One of the most common features shared by many of the top Swedish female singers must be their looks. Many have been blessed with the typical Scandinavian good looks characterized by blond blue eyed beauties. They are also mostly very physically fit. This may be due to the fact that the citizens of the country are often athletic in build. This comes from their enthusiasm for outdoor activities like hiking and swimming.

However, just because these women look good does not mean they rely on just that to succeed. The country has a culture of fostering gender equity for all. This means women have benefitted from the same access to education as men. They learn to work just as hard, if not harder at attaining their goals in the belief they are just as likely to succeed. They determinedly work hard to make their careers successful.

This determination to succeed, and the equal attention they receive at home and in school, has resulted in the creation of very self confident women. This confidence makes Swedish female singers very comfortable on stage. It has helped them easily handle concert and club performances with aplomb.

Another way in which Swedish female singers seem to distinguish themselves is in their lifestyle. Their fans appreciate how down to earth their idols seem to be. The culture in Sweden calls for humble behaviour however much one has as their bank balance. Being raised in a socialist society means these women have been inculcated with the desire to live in the same manner as most other citizens.

Together with this is the fact that the government does support the arts. In Sweden, going into a music career does not mean failure as is perceived in many other parts of the world. There are steady benefits paid to artists to ensure a comfortable living. With such support it is not surprising the women find they can make a good living from singing.

Most of the most popular Swedish female singers perform music that appeals to the masses such as pop, club music and heavy rock. Not much is heard of the other genres like. The large numbers who cater to popular music probably accounts for those who manage to attract huge fan followings.

These women work very hard to ensure their music is continuously heard locally and internationally. They take part in live concerts abroad and allow use of their songs in movie soundtracks. The determination of the Swedish female singer to keep her music strong has made her a formidable force on the music scene.
