Classic Family Portrait With Every Family Member

By Don Wong

It seems easier to do things if we have the help of our family. They make holiday celebrations more fun, and they offer comfort during challenging times. But there are things that seem more difficult to do with them. Shooting a family picture is one of those things. Although they are fun to be with, family members make up the most animated of crowds when everyone gets together. This makes it difficult for a photographer to take their portrait as a group. But taking a family portrait is very important for every generation because it's a priceless heirloom.

Plan it very well, that's the secret to taking a family portrait, especially if you have a big family. It's important that the family is complete in the portrait so you would need to notify everyone the schedule in advance. Otherwise, some aunts or uncles might be unable to make it in a short time. If there's a family celebration coming up, like the anniversary or birthday of the head of the family or the grandparents, you can hold the photo session on the same day. Everyone would have made time for the party so there is a good chance that they would be there. And it is also likely that everyone will be in a jolly mood, which is perfect for the photo.

For a Classic family portrait, ask everyone to dress in their best dress or suit. You can also ask them for ideas for a themed portrait photography. Perhaps you can all dress up in national costumes or dress in a particular shade. Though there are no rules on what everyone should wear during their portrait photo shoot, many families choose to dress in matching clothes to show that they are united as a family. Furthermore, dressing up in costume can be fun for the whole family.

Keep in mind that seniors and the young ones will be present so be sure that the venue for the photo shoot, whether it's in a photographer's studio or anywhere else, is comfortable for everyone. To keep everyone looking fresh in the photo, hold the photo shoot first before doing any activity.

Family members have different personalities. And even though everyone is dressed similarly or is told to smile for the camera at the same time, their personality will still emerge in the photos. So don't fret if some members didn't smile as impeccably as the others, or some even forgot to do so. After all, a family portrait should show the personality of the members because that's what makes it perfect.
