What You Should Know About Casting Calls For Teenagers

By Dianne Crane

The following tips on casting calls for teenagers will hopefully help any teen trying to get a job. Often teens do not have as much experience as some who are older would have. Having some helpful information before they head into an audition is always useful.

How can I avoid scams is something that is heard often from both teens and parents alike. The sad fact is that not every person is a good and kind person. This means that you must be vigilant when it comes to protecting yourself from anyone who might take advantage of you.

A good rule to have is if something makes you feel uneasy, stop and think about why. Once you take some time to think, you will usually figure out what it is that is making you feel leery. Often your instincts are correct. If it feels wrong, leave and do not look back.

Be prepared before you head in. You should go over as much information as possible. If you have an agent, he or she will have likely filled you in on pertinent information. For example the director. If you know who the director is, do some research into the director's style. The more you know ahead of time, the better prepared you will be.

Teens also wonder what a good piece of advice they can have that will see them through. One great piece of advice is to remain professional. It does not matter that you are a teen, you are expected to behave like a professional adult. You are not there to make friends or hang out, you are there for work.

Bring along what you may need. This includes head shots and a resume. Have your head shots done by a professional who specializes in this. You should also have your resume professionally done if you are unsure as to how to do your own.

Be flexible and deal with whatever is thrown at you. At times you may be asked to change up the way you read something, or to even try reading for a different character, do it. Not only should you do it, but it should be done without complaint. Never ask for or expect a break. Keep working until you are told you are done.

One final question is how to avoid feeling rejected when you do not get the job. This is one of the pitfalls of going out on casting calls for teenagers, you run the risk of hearing that you are not right for the part. This is something that anyone in this profession must get used to. You have to try to remember that it is not personal. Not everyone can be a good fit for every role. Do your best to remain confident and secure. The next part may be perfect for you.
