The Importance Of School Music Festivals

By Loraine Fitzmaurice

Cultural richness contained in music exposes children to different cultures in the world. This will help them learn to respect every community. School music festivals are usually held annually by high schools, groups all over the world to celebrate the different musical talents and education. With the different talents, pupils get to see the traditions of communities all over.

It is through music that people get to express their creativity through different styles that express emotions and remind people particular time in history. Nevertheless, performers need to follow a certain theme when choosing a song to perform. The event also focuses on a certain period as well as the type of song, be it polka or jazz. Working on a common theme makes students work on the same subject to entertain guests.

These celebrations are not only entertaining, but also have great impact on children. First, they teach them various types of songs that they would have not known when in their schools. Other events feature competitions and other activities as an individual or a group and help students participate to gain extra skills that are not learned in their schools.

Secondly, young children and students are also exposed to variety of choral arrangement, styles and musical instruments. This enhances educational experience and promotes social, emotional and academic growth. It is therefore important for parents to allow their children perform in these events rather than telling them that they waste time for their studies.

The events also open opportunities for music career to students interested in musical industry. For instance, a musician attending the event may be impressed by one or two performers and may want to assist them in the future by working together with them. If the students have passion in music, this becomes easier for them to show their talents to the world after they are through with their education.

Schools and the event get money by selling different types of foods and musical instrument in commercial booths. Visitors get entertained with these items and buy them. As a result, sellers get profit that can help buy equipments to help students improve their talents. Prizes given during the occasion are sometimes meant to improve different talents pupils have.

School music festivals have also been proven to have positive impact on disabled children. They use rhythm of instruments to open up and communicate their feelings through singing and playing instruments. For this reason, such programs are also held in schools of children with disabilities and are bringing amazing impacts.
