Marine Camera Tutorials - Fuji FinePix XP30 Waterproof Camera Evaluation

By Dan Feildman

Through this Underwater Photography Training, we've got a fantastic unique review of the Fuji FinePix XP30 Water-proof Digital Camera...

I just purchased a Fuji Water-resistant XP30 camera for a small-scale and lightweight camera for daily use. I do possess two semi-professional digital cameras, but this one appeared small enough to cart it around with me all the time. And given that I actually travel around a lot I thought that Fuji XP30 digital cameras' GPS device Geo-tagging function would certainly help make my pictures tagging quicker and easier. That brought me to my first disappointment using Fuji XP30:

I still haven't figured it out how to tag the photos using real place names, and I'm not really a novice with regards to water-proof digital cameras. All I got was a list together with the geographical locations (latitudes and longitudes). On the constructive side, the quality of the pictures captured with the Fuji XP30 Camera is very excellent, even when put into use as an idiot digital camera by using automated settings.

If the GPS navigation location issue was the only one I would state that this Fuji camera really is well worth the cash I acquired it for ( around 150$), there is however an even greater difficulty: the battery of the XP30 digital camera operates extremely fast, in the matter of hours. You could make it survive a little longer in the event you shut off the actual GPS location browsing, however you will still require an extra battery in order to use it for more than 4-5 hours. To make the problem worse, the Fuji XP30 digital camera started up inadvertently in my pocket a couple of times and the battery was already drained even before I got down to take my first image.

The advantage of Fuji XP30, when used for outdoor pursuits, is that this camera is very sturdy and it probably will not break the first time it inadvertently slips out of your hand and hits the floor. In fact, I had a number of mishaps and I can't find a single scratch on it. For the water-proof part, I primarily tested the Fuji XP30 digital camera while in the sea up to 2 meters and also under the shower (to clean the sea salt off) and seemed to be fine. The size and style of LCD display is actually 2.7", which is adequate, but their promises of anti-reflective display that may be used even in the brilliant sunlight showed clearly not to be true.

The Auto-focus function and graphic stabilization of Fuji XP30 camera for taking the picture of moving things worked really well. I tried it when taking the photos of the kids riding their bicycles and every time the photo was nicely focused and well-defined.

Taking the movies with Fuji XP30 camera is straightforward and the standard of the video is actually good. However I had significant difficulties with the actual audio while taking the movies. To begin with, I wasn't able to transfer the audio. After that, after investing a lot of time fiddling with the various functions on the Fuji XP30 and on the provided software the audio did show up, but it was completely out of synchronization. Making it all the more frustrating, while zooming in or out whilst recording a movie you can hear the zoom action in the video clip later.

In conclusion, if you want to use the Fuji XP30 camera regarding daily use or you're having the challenge with accidentally damaging your cameras it's almost certainly well worth the money you'll pay for it. However, if you don't have the opportunity to continuously charge the battery packs you should find something different.
