How To Take A Child's Portrait Photo

By Anna Thorns

Taking pictures of children is not as easy as it is to take pictures of adults. Especially those who are very young, children seldom like to sit still for a few minutes to have their pictures captured. Snapshots are easy to take, but parents can absolutely have a challenge having their kids' portrait photo captured. The outcome is going to be priceless, nonetheless, if the parents get them to behave in front of the camera for a few minutes.

Very young kids cannot be expected to simply pose before the camera. Some children can act and give the photographer their best smile, but many of them couldn't care less if they don't have a "nice" portrait at all if they have to sit still even for a couple of minutes. Taking a professional photo of a young kid is going to be challenging, whether it's a solo photo or a family portrait.

It's a challenge, true, but it's not impossible to take children photography. Parents and photographers must just remember a few things when taking a kid's portrait photograph. First, be ready and bring the kid's favourite toy. For a kid, it's always playtime, while it's business for the parents and the photographer. They would be rowdy and get bored immediately even before the photographer takes the first shot. But if they have their favourite toy, it can entertain them to stand still long enough. The toy can also help catch their attention on the camera.

Hungry kids are cranky. Bring lightweight snacks that don't require utensils on the photo shoot. The snacks must be easy to consume and clean. It would be really unfortunate if the snack spoils the kids' clothes. Ensure that they also have had full sleep before the photo shoot.

Making the kid comfortable during the photography for children Singapore session is very critical as well. They should have food and toys and they should also be in comfy clothes. Children photography must be fun so there's no need for the kid to pose very formally. After all, the objective is to show the child's character in the photo. Although they may look really adorable in small tux and little gowns, the entire picture session would just be ruined if they don't feel and look comfortable in their clothes.
