Comedy Play Scripts Are Fun To Write

By Casandra Newton

Writing any type of script, especially comedy play scripts is therapeutic as it releases subconscious thoughts whether the playwright realizes it or not. It unveils hidden thoughts the playwright or screenwriter has in their own life. It shows something going on in the writer's life whether they realize it or not. Funny stories have a way of making us laugh when we need it the most.

Some folks must work harder than others to get their talents across to the world. Some have an innate ability while others must spend years in school trying to perfect their knowledge. It does not matter how you get to where you are going a long as you do get there. Each story must have some order to it. There is a main character that must have an objective that someone else is trying to tear down.

Three acts comprise most screenplays or plays with the first act being one third of the script and the middle being sixty pages of the script. The first and third acts are both thirty pages which totals one-hundred-and-twenty pages total. This also means that each minute of acting time is usually one page on the script. Writers usually struggle with the second act as it is the longest and most difficult to keep going.

One must be very determined to get from beginning to end. Creativity and knowledge of what the script requires are part of the plan to getting it done. If a writer is struggling with this, they can go to a writing support group or hire someone to help them. Community colleges and other places offer courses, too.

It is not easy to stay engaged in a story even if it totally thrilled you in the beginning. Chances are it may lose its luster after a few dozen pages. Do not give up, however, and try to find ways of keeping it going. It will show in your writing and your readers will be able to tell whether you have kept the momentum and interest or if you have lost it.

You can also go to your local bookstore to get books on writing. You could get a book on writing funny stories as well as writing in general. There is a plethora of these to choose from as many other people are doing the very same thing you are trying to do. You are not alone by any means.

Learning how to pitch your script is going to be a whole new ballgame when it comes to making it big in this business. You must be able to sell your idea or no on will ever know it exists. Then after you sell your idea, the money will come in because they will also buy your script. Try to swallow any pride if you get rejected or are asked to revise anything.

Comedy play scripts like any other genre are not hard to write if you follow a basic formula and then add your own flair and creativity. Enjoy the process of creating something new to share with the world and then watch it come to fruition.
