Tom Cruise Films Are Eternally Popular

By Johnaton Raffael

Risky Business is one of the first Tom Cruise movies that everyone associates with him and his early career. Fans laughter rings out when he appears in the role of Joel Goodsen and dances and sings in his underwear. This film is one of the biggest hits from 1983.

He starred as a pilot in 1986. The movie was Top Gun and he was Lieutenant Pete, Maverick, Mitchel. This film soared to new heights, both literally and figuratively. The views from the pilots seat were absolutely dizzying to watch.

But, his acting talents shone brightest in the role of Charlie Babbit. He was big brother to Raymond Babbit, his savant brother. Raymond, Rain Man, could recite all the numbers in the phone book, yet was unable to give change for a dollar. When Dustin Hoffman, as Raymond, counted cards and did other things in Las Vegas, it was some of the best film making in history.

He grew into the savvy lawyer as Mitch McDeere in the 1993 masterpiece, The Firm. His joy at being taken in to the firm with the big bucks turned to horror at what this legal group was really all about. There was no limit to the peaks and valleys of emotion the audience was taken through during this suspenseful movie.

In addition to acting, Cruise has been a producer and executive producer. He produced Without Limits in 1998. In 2002 he produced Hitting it Hard. He was listed as executive producer of Narc in 2002 and The Others in 2001. His talents in producing are apparently as impressive as his talents as an actor.

In the science fiction movie, he plays a PreCrime captain on the police force, John Anderton. There are three psychics who identify the murderers before they can strike. In Far and Away, he has the part of an Irish immigrant to the American West. In one scene he was vilified by punching a horse in the mouth. Although some considered it funny, most considered it animal abuse.

In June of this year, 2012, the list of Tom Cruise movies grew longer when he starred in Rock of Ages. This hit, directed by Adam Shankman, was adapted from a Broadway musical bearing the same name. He absolutely rocked the screen as Stacee Jaxx, a dynamite rock singer. He performs a benefit to save his friend from losing the bar he owns. Included are a pack of famous actors and a panoply of sub plots woven throughout.
