Why You Should Plan A Glamorous Equestrian Wedding For Your Special Day

By Flora Vinson

An equestrian wedding is a very romantic way to begin your special day. A carriage hire service makes an equestrian wedding a straightforward alternative to more usual modes of transport. The bride together with the bridal party can enjoy an exciting journey to the church or venue.

Some companies allow several hours for transport to and from the venue. This allows time for photos as needed. A maximum distance is sometimes set and other transport may need to be arranged if church and reception venues are distant from each other.

The carriage type differs with each company. Some horse-drawn carriages allow the passengers to be seen more easily and these types are chosen as wedding vehicles. A pair of horses is normal and usually four to six people can be accommodated.

Special 'pumpkin' coaches have been created to ensure the bride is easily visible. Completely glassed, the fairytale effect is enhanced by sumptuous upholstery and lots of gilding. Once bedecked with ribbons and flowers, the effect is magical.

The landau, also called the barouche or Victoria, is also very elegant. Shiny brass lanterns and thick upholstery add glamour to a special day. The landau is low to the ground and has two benches in the body of the vehicle. These face each other. There may be a low door or this may have been removed to allow a better view of the bride's gown.

Some vehicles are adapted with an extra two external seats. The driver and groom sit separately and high. Fold back hoods can be raised in seconds if the need arises.

Harness horses used for for these occasions must be totally safe and very well trained. Elegant, matching horses will provide a fitting spectacle for your big day. Plumes on the bridles and tassels on the polished harness add to the glamour, making your equestrian wedding a day to remember.
