If you are interested in electronic music there is an outdoor event which will suit your needs with the best display of current artists in the world. The Ultra Music Festival started in 1999 as an annual 1-day event and has expanded to include some of the most prolific artists in this field, and it now lasts a full three days. This usually occurs in March each year and the current venue is downtown Miami in Bicentennial Park, although this has been changed many times and if ticket numbers increase will be altered again.
Usually held during the winter music conference, the concept was brought to life by Alex Omes and Russell Faibisch who noticed that the resources and events surrounding dance artists could be better. In 2009 it had a celebration for its 10th anniversary which saw a prestigious line-up of electronic artists. The event sold out and seventy thousand people were in attendance.
After the first year it was produced, tickets have been selling out months beforehand so getting to attend can be difficult and requires a level of forward planning to ensure you will get in. Renowned artists from all over the world perform here and it is established as a worldwide event. It was presented with the 2011 international dance music award for being voted the best event of the year.
Many of the performers are high profile artists, such as Skrillex, the most popular name in dub-step at the moment. The British dance group Chase N Status has played there on many occasions. Even legendary 1980's band New Order have graced the stage much to the crowds delight.
If you want to get involved in some good causes and do something active towards climate problems, you can consult with a host of charities and organizations at the co-village. This has been set up on site for the last couple of years. They also have a recycling program that has helped to eradicate most of the waste.
In summer 2012, there will be another festival in a different venue, in Poland. This could be the start of a biannual event if it is a success. Tickets are available online or in your area.
The location has changed three times over the course of its history due to the number of tickets being sold. The Ultra Music Festival continues to grow in size and awareness. Tickets for the 2012 event have already been confirmed as completely sold out.
