Photos Printed On Canvas Represent An Innovative Art Form

By Cheri Knowles

Photos printed on canvas have provided us with the chance to display our personal and artistically created photos on larger formats. When they are printed on linen or fabric-like substrates the images can be shared with a larger number of people. Priceless family pictures can be freed from the pages of photo albums and be permitted display space on a wall for all to see.

Countless numbers of people enjoy photography as a profession or hobby. Many have discovered the technology of photo enlargement and duplication onto canvas. These larger format images will have a new look and feel from those printed on paper.

The canvas itself is stretched over a wooden supporting frame allowing the image to protrude several inches out from the wall. This attention getting technique often resembles a traditional oil painting. Many have found this a more affordable way to re-create the look and feel of an expensive oil painting.

Printing on a thicker material requires a large format printer. Well known manufacturers offer several models on the market so the buyer should be prepared to do some research prior to their purchase. The buyer should also be aware that there are printers for UV proof inks and non UV proof inks. This means that the ink is able to withstand fading from the light.

Mixed media artwork consists of mixing different techniques together and this is also the case in digitally printing photographs onto linen. The public sees this art form all around them and can enjoy new artistic interpretations as a result. Digitally reproduced images allow many more people to enjoy a beautiful photograph.

The photos printed on canvas are enhanced with real painted applied by brush onto certain areas of the image. The modern artists have discovered that they can create interesting results by also manipulating the images with software programs prior to printing them. Many of these artists have enthusiastic buyers willing to pay large amounts of money to purchase their works.
