What Is The Hunger Games Pin?

By Gale Laxton

The book Hunger Games quickly became a sensation and something that millions have loved. Thanks to its popularity it is now a motion picture in which the characters and the whole book are to be portrayed on film. One of the most discussed parts of the whole book and movie is the story surrounding the Hunger Games pin.

This is one of the biggest sources of symbolism in the storyline. It is also called the mockingjay pin from time to time and is the most important choice of symbolism in the story. The mockingjay in the story is a special device that allowed one the ability to listen.

One of the symbols in this is that it is a mockingjay. This is because this was something that was used when the various districts began to turn away from one another. Later it is actually worn to the competition by Katniss, which means that it sometimes becomes a symbol of rebellion.

There are some things that you will have to gather about the story before you are going to be able to understand the symbolism that is present. The first of these is the setting which is in the future after the world as we now know it has ended. It is a land of mass destruction and pandemonium.

At this time the different districts have adapted to their own governments and have separated themselves. Once a year there comes a time when each of the districts must send one of the young people from their district to fight in a battle that ends in death. Each character that is chosen to fight will learn something about themself.

Some of them are more concerned with the humanity of what they are doing. Others are simply working to make sure that they are last man standing after the battle. Either way the pin comes into play in the storyline as something that is full of symbols.

In some circles it is suspected that this has been added to the story to make you think. It is supposed to help you to think about your future. Plus it is supposed to make you feel something about your own government.

With some additional meanings you will learn that the Hunger Games pin also represents different things to different people. At one point it seems to be worn solely to make fun of or mock the government. So there is speculation that this is why the name mockingjay was chosen as well.
