Samsung Un40d6420ufxza LED 3D Hdtv Set, Bringing The World To Your Home

By Carlton T Driver

Samsung has been a leader in the development of flat panel HDTV sets; it is one of the top brands available. Their newest sets feature LED back-lighting technology, replacing the cold-cathode fluorescent tube systems that were used by the first generation of LCD TV sets. The use of this LED technology has enabled them to produce sets that are thinner, and lighter than earlier sets, yet produce substantially better picture quality. The Samsung UN40D6420UFXZA LED 3D HDTV is a good example of this technical excellence.

Since a Liquid crystal display can't generate any luminescence, but instead acts like a shutter that adjusts the passage of light out of the display, all LCD displays require a back-light to be seen in poor lighting conditions. The Liquid crystal part of the screen merely acts like a "shutter" which either permits light to pass through the display, or blocks it.

A color TV image is generated by controlling the degree of transparency for each and every LCD point that regulates the light moving through each one of the color filters, in each and every one of the pixels that produce the complete picture. For an HDTV image, there must be 1,080 horizontal lines of pixels, every one of which has 1920 pixels - a total of more than 2,000,000 pixels that create each picture, or frame of a TV broadcast or movie. Every one of these three filters is regulated individually to control the hue that produces each pixel, for each frame of a TV frame. The picture for an HDTV screen is refreshed at a frequency of either 120 Hz, or 240 Hz (120 to 240 times each second) depending upon the design.

The earliest LCD Television models had the back-lighting provided by a series of cold-cathode fluorescent tubes, that provide a white luminescence. Every picture element, or pixel that makes up a TV display is really a location within the display with three microscopic optical/ filters which create the 3 primary TV colors: red, green, and blue (RGB). Each color TV frame is created by adjusting the level of visibility of the Liquid crystal spot that regulates the light passing through each of the filters in every one pixels that will make up the complete image.

The Samsung UN40D6420UFXZA 3D LED HDTV set is equipped with an "edge lighting" method to supply the back-light for the LCD display. In this system, very high intensity white-light LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) are positioned along the edge of the screen . A diffuser sheet then disperses this light across the entire surface of the picture. This employment of an LED light frame results in the TV requiring a lot less power to operate. This particular set is very efficient: based on an operating interval of five hours each 24-hour interval, and an electricity rate of $0.11 per Kwh, it will only cost about $14/year to operate this set. If the set is not running, it consumes just 0.07 Watts of power. This amounts to 0.6 Kwh/yr, which is something like $0.07, assuming on the very same power charges - no "electricity vampire" here!

This UN40D6420UFXZA Samsung tv is loaded with what Samsung refers to as "Smart Apps" - apps which form the foundation of their "Smart TV" system. All these "Apps" allow anyone to use the TV to browse the Internet, and download Web content from providers like Netflix, Hulu Plus, Pandora, and others.

Another feature of this tv is its use of "Allshare DLNA Technology". DLNA refers to the "Digital Living Network Alliance". It is an "Interoperability Protocol" that makes it possible for various electronic devices to link together for file sharing and data communication. The Samsung "Allshare" feature makes it easy to link most of your current DLNA-enabled components with your Samsung TV set, which then gives you access to all the various media data files on your desktop, iPhone, as well as other devices, right there on your HDTV set. Add to that the optional LinkStick, and you will have WIFI connectivity in addition.

The Samsung UN40D6420UFXZA TV also includes something called the ConnectShare Movie feature. This feature makes it possible to look at pictures, watch videos, or play music by using any USB Flash Drive. All that you have to do would be to insert the drive in the USB port within the set, and you will be able to access the files.

The clarity of to the picture you will experience from the UN40D6420UFXZA Samsung is enhanced by the Ultra Clear Panel which actually forms the front-side surface of the screen. This particular panel soaks up ambient light from the surroundings, which virtually eliminates that annoying glare that can appear on the screen. This then gives you a picture with richer blacks and better contrast, giving you a crisper, cleaner picture with excellent shadow depth.
