A catch up with the stars of The Inbetweeners

By Courtney S. Morgan

For the three years spanning 2008 to 2010, a whole new set of loveable (and laughable) characters were brought to life on Channel 4. The four school friends of The Inbetweeners had us laughing and cringing as they tried to impress their peers and woo the girls. But since the end of the third series and the 2011 release of The Inbetweeners Movie, what have they been up to?

Simon Bird who played the geeky Will McKenzie went straight on to star in another Channel 4 comedy show, Friday Night Dinner, from 2010 to April 2011. Following the show, he co-wrote and starred in a pilot episode of Chickens; a WW1-set comedy drama.

Although Channel 4 decided not to commission a full series, someone at Sky saw the potential of the show, so now Bird (along with another Inbetweener, Joe Thomas) is working on filming the whole first series of Chickens which is set to be broadcast next summer.

Joe Thomas who played the mild-mannered but constantly embarrassed Simon Cooper in The Inbetweeners has also picked up a lot of TV work. Throughout 2011, Thomas starred in the new university fresher comedy, Fresh Meat, alongside comedian Jack Whitehall. Like Bird, Thomas is currently filming new comedy, Chickens.

The foul-mouthed Jay Cartwright was played by James Buckley who at the same time as finishing The Inbetweeners was also rounding off Rock & Chips; the prequel series to Only Fools and Horses. After appearing in The Hunt for Tony Blair last year, Buckley has taken a back seat from acting, instead spending time with his child born in October 2011. Blake Harrison who played the dim-witted Neil Sutherland, on the other hand, has appeared in both the American-British sitcom, The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret and the BBC's The Bleak Old Shop of Stuff.
