Pop Music Artists: Pop Industry Rediscovered

By Dean Smith

Pop culture today is very hard to define. The genre is actually a result of years of development which started along the nineties and continued to change for over a decade. What is interesting to note is that when listened to intently, individuals would hear signature tunes from the earlier years of this genre, showing exactly how Pop Music Artists today have successfully blended the past and present to create a genre that is uniquely theirs.

Right now, the pop industry is alive with artists such as Lady Gaga, Rhianna and even Justin Bieber. Even top artists from the late nineties are still active today and continuing their reign over the genre. These include performers such as Beyonce, Christina Aguilera and the pop princess Britney Spears.

So what does this mean for the listeners? Right now, the booming pop industry is divided with listeners preferring specific artists rather than the songs. However, the songs that seem to keep hitting the top charts today are those with very catchy titles.

What is really popular in pop culture today is the introduction of futuristic or technological sounds. These are usually deliberately placed in the song to provide contrast to the soft voice of the singer. In most cases, this is that one element that identifies present music from those created during the nineties.

Of course, the tune itself is not the only important characteristic listeners today are looking for. Many avid enthusiasts are also concerned about the lyrics. People gravitate to lyrics that mean something to them or those that they can relate to. This usually refers to songs about love and heartbreak which appeals to most listeners today.

However, what really revolution the pop industry more than any other development is the entrance of MTV videos. Although they are already popular in the nineties, it is only now that MTV videos have become a work of art, often judged separately from the song. In most cases, enthusiastic fans do not just wait for a song because of its tune but also for its amazing music video.

Although some of the best pop music artists today are within their later twenties, majority of the listening demographic is younger. These are the same people that have the most access to music and videos online, especially with the help of domains like YouTube. With the internet still developing, it is believed that the pop culture today will thrive until the next decade.
