Capturing The Bride's Emotions In Lifestyle Photography

By Michal Foster

Weddings are among the best opportunities for photographers to capture inspiring and moving photographs. Before the actual event, there is usually a chance for you to document the preparation of the bride, together with her emotions of excitement and anxiety. It is also your chance to capture heartwarming images with your lens. As a photographer, you must shoot bridal photographs that will bring fond memories to the couple later on.

An important rule in doing lifestyle photography especially through wedding documentations is to capture the bare emotions of your subject which is the bride. In doing so, you may opt for two approaches in photography: photojournalistic and traditional.

Photojournalistic Approach To Lifestyle And Wedding Photography

This type of lifestyle photography is both challenging and exciting, as you need to document the emotions the bride feels while preparing for her wedding. While you're snapping bridal photographs it's important that you don't get in the way of the preparations, while still trying to capture the humour and drama of the bride's actions and the people around her.

You need to be creative with your angles and lighting to produce dramatic images. You can use the windows or doors to create framing for your subject. You can also take advantage of mirrors and the natural lighting in the room.

Traditional Shoot With Bridal Gowns

One thing guests usually anticipate to see on the wedding day is the bridal gown or bridal gowns, if the bride chooses to have multiple dresses for the event. Usually, before the actual ceremony you'll have a pre-nuptial photo session with the couple. This will give you a chance to present what the bride will be wearing on the big day. You must prepare the locations before the shoot to avoid waste of time for you and your clients.

You must remember though to avoid photo sessions in places which might ruin the bridal gowns. To take photos of the bridal dress you can just go for studio photo sessions. Moreover, for other photographs shot during the pre-nuptial photo session, you may ask the bride to wear other clothing instead. The wedding ceremony is of course a perfect moment for you to feature the gowns of the bride.

In the end, the important thing in lifestyle photography, such as in wedding documentation, is that your subject should be at ease so the photos would turn out genuine.
