I returned it as soon as I got back. While larger than compact point and shoots, this camera's tough features let you take pictures you might not otherwise get if you left your regular camera at home.
One common complaint - slow start-up time - can be easily fixed by following directions in the manual: Turn "PW on Start-up" to off, this will keep the camera from loading the logo and the camera is immediately ready for use. Another common complaint is the time it takes in order to shoot the next picture. I also saw the same issue with poor focusing on anyone/anything moving. Rugged Design and feel Cons: Needing to hook up to a PC to "initialize" the camera I just bought this camera at best buy in Miami on vacation. The menu options are very easy. It is very easy to switch the flash on and off, which the option I toggle back and forth the most. However, its good compare it to other point and shoot cameras. The 720p HD video is great to have as well.
The first tech support person told me I do not need to initialize the camera, and that when connected with my mac it will automatically download photos to iPhoto. The camera should present a menu on the LCD screen, with one of the options being "Storage." This camera has got to be the most unintuitive point and shoot I've ever seen or used. I don't even care about the image quality, even if it were outstanding, the interface and poor design would steer me away. It is amazing, I have taken underwater pictures and dropped it before and it holds up fine. I have even spilled juice on it before and just had to rinse it off. I was excited to try it. I received my package in 2 days (love Amazon Prime!) but I have to be honest, I immediately wanted to return it.
Then he showed us that he could step on it, and drop it from a certain height, and it would remain in good condition. The thing that really got me interested was that it was waterproof. While the camera worked very well underwater for snorkeling, it fell short on land. I purchased the camera based on design and durability, believing that a company like Olympus would have figured out how to take digital photos, but I was wrong. I will be contacting Olympus "I'm still in the 90 day limited warranty time frame. I hope they stand behind it, I will keep everyone posted.
My girlfriend and I took a month long vacation in Nicaragua. We both bought stylus tough series cameras.
Overall this camera is awesome, I took it white water rafting and it held up great (I didn't submerge it but it definitely got wet and bumped around). It is a great camera for outdoor lovers who don't want to lug a huge camera around, are disappointed with cellphone pic quality, and want to take pictures everywhere they go.
I really made points with my granddaughter on her 18th birthday. She picked it out on Amazon and is using it at the beach.
