This camera is head and shoulders above the other point and shoot cameras for snorkeling, outdoor shots, video in at least a decently lit location, and even indoors within 5 feet of the camera. My favorite setting continues to be - AUTO!
I was given this camera as a birthday present just before my vacation to Thailand. To all the people saying how good the picture quality is, you must be working for Olympus! I was very happy with my old camera, so decided to replace it with the current mode. The Olympus 6020 seemed to fit the bill and came with a few new features. Since I got the Stylus Tough 6020, I have already crashed while tree skiing, launching it into the snow. It survived the impact with a tree and landing in the slushy wet snow and kept recording the whole time. The down load of photos and movies was difficult and would not mate with the PC documents files. The battery time was OK and the photos were good.
The lens never fogged up and the pictures were very good; clarity, color and lighting. The camera never got submersed in water completely because I never tripped and fell in the river and I did not take any underwater pictures. Great price and I like the color choice I made. Highly recommend this camera for the adventurous.
I bought this camera just for Kayaking. It takes quality photos and is very simple to use. Operation is aggravating. My wife and I saw this camera in Best Buy and she really liked it.
The USB cable provided is not like the old standard USB cable that you use for peripherals like your printer. The end you plug into your camera is a bit newer technology.
Bottom line, either purchase the 8010 or look for another series. It's a great waterproof camera. In short, it's a great little camera. I think you'll be the most satisfied with it if you know some basic concepts of photography (such as providing adequate and appropriate lighting), but this is a solid little camera. This camera definitely has great optical quality. It's a very thin camera and the user interface is very easy to use and smart.
I would recommend this camera for rain, the beach and poor weather but I hesitate to say it should be submerged. Have a backup if you are away on vacation (just in case). The manual for this camera is online I believe. Haven't tried the underwater feature but hopefully it will work out, it seemed to get good reviews from other users.
