Hindi Films Going the International Way

By Kevin Fernandez

Over the few years, Indian movies are seeing a rise in the number of fans, abroad. Indian films are on an increasing rate seeking help from Hollywood technical crew to be at par with the international standards. Hindi movie industry is seeing an increase in its following in a lot of foreign countries. Producers from north and south India are trying their level best to grow the filmmaking business in foreign countries.

Indian movies has recently seen an obsession with superhero stories. Producers have been putting their best foot forward to make their films look like an English film with latest techniques. Tamil movie industry saw the costliest film ever to be made in the country through Robot starring the superstar Rajnikanth. The film's director, Shankar, hired a few of the best technical crew from the American film industry to create the visual effects for the movie. Rajnikanth, who loves the fame among Japanese audiences, struck it big time with 'Robot' becoming a huge success in both Tamil and Hindi (the dubbed version).

Closely following the path of Robot are other superhero movies, this time from the Hindi movie industry. Ra One, featuring SRK in his first superhero role, is considered to be more costly than Robot. And then there is the Hrithik Roshan starrer 'Krrish 2', a sequel to 'Krrish', yet another in a line of superhero movies. Hollywood technical crew have been employed by the film directors just like Shankar did it for his film Robot. The screenplay for Ra One is penned by David Benullo and a track has been recorded by popular artist Akon. Both 'Ra One' and 'Krrish 2' intend to compete with the superhero genre of movies of the American film industry.

Hindi films are also featuring Hollywood stars, besides the technical crew in the movie. The Brazilian supermodel Barbara Mori was roped in the previous year to act opposite to Hrithik Roshan in the film Kites. The strategy, but, did not aid the film's success at the box office. An upcoming film with international collaboration is Zoya Akhtar's 'Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara'. The film has an ensemble cast featuring Hrithik, Farhan Akhtar and Abhay Deol in the male lead. The movie is shot in Spain and predictably, has an actress from Spain Ariadna Cabrol, as one of the female leads and has cinematography by Carlos Catalan from Barcelona.

With increased tie-up with foreign technical crew and stars, the Indian cinema, especially Hindi movies, is trying to make its presence felt internationally. Well, what turns will the events take in the future cannot be predicted but it's definite that everybody wants these films to be released.
