Very Good, With Extras - Medium Format Digital Camera Critique

By Bella Hughes

The general close-up mode will use a flash, and I've found it works fine to leave it on when taking regular pictures as well. The super close-up does not allow you to use a flash, but it can take closer pictures.

It's a little slow at navigating the different scenes and functions, but it's been improving with time. I love how I can drop this camera (super clumsy) and know it will be okay!

I sent in my camera twice, over six months. It would not turn on, and the pictures would not upload to the computer. Anyway, I waited hoped it would work after drying out. Then LCD screen would constantly turn on and off.

Being one of the newest of the underwater digital cameras, I had reasoned that surely the leak issues had been resolved. I bought this for snorkeling in Hawaii and on the second use, water got into it. By the way, I have successfully used the 6020 in my community pool for testing underwater and I am looking forward to my upcoming vacation to Aruba this month. I have had the camera for a few days now and really put it through the paces.

Olympus has said that the warranty will cover it but I made the mistake to not save all the paperwork. However I am still considering buying a new Olympus because I really like the thought of a water proof camera and the picture quality was good. There are some settings (including panorama) where you cannot change certain settings, such as focus type and image size (this is a BIG problem! 3M for a panorama will NOT look good blown up!). There goes a few seconds wasted trying to get the camera to start taking pictures. Overall it's a good camera and for the price, you can't beat it. Picture quality is great. Pictures look 100 times better on a computer screen rather than the small 2.7 inch screen.

The quality of the video and photos was much better than expected...we ended up leaving the DSLR in our room most of the trip. We use this camera for our vacations. The USB cable provided is not like the old standard USB cable that you use for peripherals like your printer. The end you plug into your camera is a bit newer technology. The pictures I have taken both indoors and outdoors are clear not grainy and the HD video is awesome. This camera even has sound when previewing your vids from camera, which I love since my Kodak didn't.

They wanted my credit card number along with the camera. I told them to throw the camera in the trash. The initial instructions for charging the battery and setup and initializing of the camera do not work with a Mac. I had to call tech support to find out that you cannot charge the battery on the Mac; you must use the adapter [provided] and a wall outlet.
