Tips And Tricks For Fine Art Photography

By Ruppert Davidson

If you are completely new to the world of photography, then you may be thinking that a few tips on photography can help you immensely, so that you can start bettering your ability to take good, clear photos. This article contains a few tips to get you started with your photography endeavors.

To get an interesting photograph, play around with the lighting. If the natural lighting is not perfect, do not feel the need to resort to your camera's flash. Play with the shadows on the scene, or move your subject into the light and let the darkness eliminate the background behind them. There are many ways to play with light that might initially seem less than favorable but work out well in the end.

Take pictures of the souvenirs you purchased when you travel. You could take a picture of the store where you bought something or simply photograph the object with an original background. This will allow you to create a story behind the objects you bought as souvenirs: you should enjoy this when you come home.

Use your camera as a tool for your shots. More specifically, try using your camera's depth of field to your advantage to take some good shots. Using a more shallow depth of field is a great way to blur your backgrounds out and to help draw more attention to the subject matter in the photo.

When framing your photo, always think about the rule of thirds. This should actually be the rule of ninths, because you are envisioning your photo space into thirds both horizontally and vertically. Try to place your subject to the left or right, top or bottom, instead of dead center in the picture. This will make the viewer's eyes move around the image instead of stareing straight into it.

If you are going to be taking pictures in low lighting areas, you may want to consider lowering the camera's f/stop (aperture) setting. This will allow the aperture to open to its widest setting, which in turn, allows the most light available to pass through the lens and the shutter as well.

A fantastic tip that can make your photographs more interesting is to start utilizing patterns. Patterns can be an excellent design motif if you use them correctly. You can find patterns on almost anything. You can find them on lots of clothes, in architecture, and even in nature.

A great photography tip that can help you out is to learn as much as you can about Photoshop. Photoshop is a great resource because it allows you to edit your images. You can even create interesting effects by using one of the many different tools Photoshop has to offer.

Use the natural light that shines through a window to light your photos. This light is soft and diffused after it passes through the window pane and will create a beautiful light on your subject. Place your subject directly in the light of the window and you will be quite pleased with the results.

One simple tip that can take your photography from okay to fabulous is to simply move in closer. There is a tendency to want to get as much of the scenery as possible in a picture, but the best shots come from moving in nice and tight. Your subject should fill the majority of the frame because details make for a far more interesting photo.

As you can see from the above list of tips, photography can be very useful in capturing a moment in time or a subject that could not otherwise be caught. After following these tips, you will no longer be new to the world of photography, but you will become a photographic expert.
